The death has been made known of the thoughtful and widely recorded pianist David Wilde.

Although first recognised as a specialist in Chopin and Liszt, Wilde’s interests extended to Busoni and Dallapiccola, as well as to his own teachers Hindemith and Reizenstain. He recorded the complete Beethoven violin-piano sonatas with Erich Gruenberg.

Manchester born, he was Professor of Piano in Hannover from 1981 to 2000 and visiting professor at the University of Edinburgh from 2001.

David Wilde was long a favourite at the BBC Proms. Latterly, he recorded forn Delphian Records in Edinbugh.
