Robert "Rabbit" Jaramillo obit

Robert "Rabbit" Mata Jaramillo

July 3, 1947 ~ August 8, 2025 (age 78)

He was not on the list.

Robert Mata “Rabbit” Jaramillo, 78, passed away August 8, 2025. He was born July 3 1947 in California to proud parents, Jose and Guadalupe (Mata) Jaramillo. Both precede him in death along with his siblings, Margarette Carro, Joe Jaramillo, Marian Diaz, Carmen Vasquez and Anthony Jaramillo; and grandson, Mario Benassi.

Today we remember Robert Jaramillo, Father, Grandfather, brother, uncle and devoted friend.  His humor, witty personality and positive outlook on life led to his nickname as “Life of the Party.”  Robert grew up in East Los Angeles, California with a large and loving family.  His passion for music began early in life and committed to making it his professional career at 15 years of age. Robert found success as a founding member of the world renowned band Cannibal and the Headhunters which is one of the first Mexican-American groups with a hit album.  Their album ‘Land of 1000 Dances’ reached number 30 on the Billboard Hot 100.  Robert started a family with Martha Jaramillo and made a career working for the Railroad as a signal maintainer. He loved to go fishing, making his own knives and tying his own flies. Robert enjoyed the sport of boxing and was a dedicated Broncos fan. The family would like to extend a special thanks to our sister Julie and her husband Tony.  They took in and cared for Robert for over 14 years.  We would also like to share our deepest appreciation for Compassus and the team of caregivers who supported Robert in his final days. A special thanks to Julie and Tony’s neighbors Linda and Renee Olivas for all times they lent a helping hand.  Robert would not want you to mourn or be stricken with sadness today.  Rather, he would like you to remember and carry on his love of life through moments of joy together.  Joke together as Robert did, love together as Robert did, and cherish each other as Robert cherished us all.  And as Robert would say… … “whatever!”

Robert is survived by his children, Lisa (Vernon) Trujillo, Julie (Tony) Trujillo, Raquel (David) Rodriguez, Ursula (Kenny) Hanson, Natalie (Mario) Benassi, Jessica (Joseph) Herrera, Robert Jaramillo and Joseph Jaramillo; grandchildren, Daniel Hernandez, Michael (Michaela) Hernandez, Robert Jaramillo, Jonathan, Mercedes and Aaron Patterson, David, Raquel, and Angelica Rodriguez, Amanda Hanson (Amir), Kenny Hanson (Tina), Stephaña Benassi, Joshua (Cassie) Benassi, Liliana Benassi and Joaquin Herrera; 17 great grandchildren; and numerous family and friends who love Robert and will miss him.

Funeral Service, 11 am, Mon., August 18, 2025 at Good Shepherd Fellowship, 1216 E. Beech St., Pueblo, CO. 81001
