Elon Dershowitz obit

Elon Dershowitz, film producer, dies at 64

Elon Dershowitz had an accomplished career in producing movies and podcasts.

He was not on the list.

Film and podcast producer Elon Dershowitz died after having a stroke on Sunday at age 64.

Dershowitz co-produced the 1990 film Reversal of Fortune, having brought the project to the Pressman Film company, his employer in Hollywood.

The film starred Jeremy Irons, who won an Oscar for best actor, and Glenn Close. It has been included on several lists of best films of the past century.

Dershowitz co-produced many other movies, including Fallen (1998) with Denzel Washington, Wall Street (1987), The Whole Truth (2016), The Advocate’s Devil (1997), and Martians Go Home (1989).

He also co-produced the ESPN TV shows Break Up the Bombers: Yankees on Trial (2004), Whose Curse is Worse (2004), and Pete Rose on Trial (2003). He also tried his hand at acting in The Girlfriend Experience (2009). At the time of his death, Dershowitz was producing The Dershow podcast.

The life and career of Elon Dershowitz

When he was younger, Dershowitz was an amateur magician who performed under the name Elon the Pretty Good to various audiences – including the Boston Celtics and Ted Kennedy and his Senate staff – throughout the Boston area.

Many people also remember Dershowitz from his nightly performances in the popular bar area of the restaurant Legal Sea Foods.

He graduated from Hampshire College and then worked in the audiovisual department of the Harvard Business School before moving to Hollywood and then New York City.

Dershowitz was also a foodie who enjoyed sharing his restaurant discoveries with friends and family. So too with films, about which he was an expert. He was an avid sports fan, especially of the NBA and WNBA. He loved stand-up comedy and even performed on occasion. He collected art, especially Edvard Munch lithographs, as well as magic posters and letters.

He was known for his devotion to his family, his sense of humor, and his kindness. For Dershowitz, the greatest compliment he could pay was to describe someone as kind. And kind to the very end, he was an organ donor.

He is survived by his father, Alan, and his stepmother, Carolyn. His mother, Sue, died in 1983. He is also survived by his brother Jamin, Jamin’s wife Barbara, their children, Lori and Lyle, as well as his sister, Ella, her husband, David, his uncle, Nathan, and his cousins, Adam and Rana, and their families. His aunt, Marilyn, died in 2011. He was known as Uncle E to all his family members.

Dershowitz’s funeral service will be held on Tuesday in New York City.
