Leslie Perkins obit

Leslie Perkins Has Died

She was not on the list.

Leslie Perkins was an actress, known for Burke's Law (1963), Mannix (1967) and Bob Hope Presents the Chrysler Theatre (1963). She died on August 13, 2024 in Oregon, USA.

She played Octavia in the original Batman episode “The Minstrel’s Shakedown/Barbecued Batman.” Despite the fact the show was confused about her name (she’s listed as “Amanda” in the credits), Octavia is an interesting moll to an interesting villain, the Minstrel. She, too, like others before and after her, perked up at the sound of Batman’s warm, attractive voice, but she could summon a little steel into her own when she wanted to.

Octavia is a henchwoman or moll for The Minstrel (Van Johnson), who is a musician and electronics genius who is attempting to wreak havoc on the Gotham City Stock Exchange. His plot is to extort $1000 per week from each Stock Exchange member. Each of the pre-recorded messages show him on a television screen, strumming a lute and singing his demands to the tune of "A Wandering Minstrel I".

Octavia wears a tiny purple minidress with pink stockings. She wears black high heels and has a red purse around her arm. Her brunette hair is worn in a long ponytail.

Batman (Adam West) uses a Bat Drone to located the Minstrel's hideout. When the dynamic duo arrive, the Minstrel captures them and put them on a rotisserie for a little barbecue.

In the second episode, Batman and Robin easily escape from the pit by simply shaking themselves loose. The Minstrel and his henchmen escape. Here is where Octavia comes in play. She has been left behind by the others, and therefore, offers herself up to Batman. She is actually quite taken by Batman's look. However, Batman used the attraction to put a bugging device in her handbag.

When she arrives back at the hideout, Octavia describes how kind Batman was to her, which completely infuriates the Minstrel. Later, when the Minstrel finds the bugging device in her bag, and he uses this to tell Batman of a phony job.

The Minstrel deliveres a final ultimatum to Gotham City's Stock Exchange members, threatening to collapse their building through subsonic vibrations.

The Minstrel, his henchmen, and it is presumed Octavia are all arrested and led off to prison at the end. However, after the bug was found in her bag, we don't see her again in the episode.
