Former PM Zaid Al-Rifai passes away

 

He was not on the list.


Former Prime Minister Zaid Al-Rifai passed away on Monday aged 88.

Al-Rifai was born in 1936 in Amman, Jordan.

Al-Rifai was Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defense from 1973 until 1976, and Prime Minister and Minister of Defense in 1985.

He obtained his primary certificate from the Bishop's School in Jordan, secondary certificate from Victoria School in Cairo, bachelor's degree from Harvard University, and master's degree in law and international relations from Columbia University.

Al-Rifai served as Chief of Royal Protocol in 1964, Secretary General of the Royal Hashemite Court ,Private Secretary to His Majesty King Hussein Bin Talal, ,Chief of the Royal Hashemite Court, Jordan's Ambassador to Britain in 1971,Political Advisor to His Majesty the King, Member of the Eleventh Senate 1978, Member of the Twelfth Senate 1979-1983, Member of the Thirteenth Senate 1983-1984, Member of the Fourteenth Senate 1984-1988, Member of the Fifteenth Senate 1988-1989, Member of the Seventeenth Senate 1993-1997, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defense in 1973, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defense in 1974, Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Defense in 1976, and Prime Minister and Minister of Defense in 1985.

He retired from political work on December 12, 2009 after his son, Samir Zaid Al-Rifai, was appointed Prime Minister.

Al-Rifai also was the President of the Jordanian Senate from November 23, 1997 until December 17, 2009.
