Tim Hinkley obit

Tim Hinkley Passed Away

He was not on the list.

The great Tim Hinkley died on August 22nd at the age of 78, and the entire strain of British rock’s DNA passed away with him. Hinkley wasn’t a simple master of ivories who accompanied the likes of Steve Marriott, Mike Patto and Al Stewart; Tim’s keyboard passages nurtured the very fiber of their records. And many more. He night have been a member of THE BO STREET RUNNERS, a cofounder of JODY GRIND and the leader of HINKLEY’S HEROES – the latter featuring fluctuating line-up of rhythm-and-blues elite who used to be joined on stage by luminaries like Joe Cocker – but his parts are scattered across in impressive array of classic albums.

There are CHAPMAN WHITNEY’s “Streetwalkers” and "Bloodletting" by BOXER, there are studio and concert offering from SNAFU; there are THIN LIZZY’s “Jailbreak” on which Hinkley was unjustly not credited and "Accidentally Born In New Orleans" by Alexis Korner’s SNAPE; there are such dissimilar opuses as HUMBLE PIE’s “Street Rats” and "Still" by KING CRIMSON poet Peter Sinfield; there were even David Coverdale‘s first solo releases. Tim’s playing complemented and enriched the sound of everything, and he was loved and respected by everyone in this competitive and cruel business, and he never stopped working – performing, teaching, writing – and celebrated the 60th anniversary of his career last November with a top-notch intimate show. Yet, sadly, a few months the veteran fell ill and didn’t fully recover as all of his friends hoped he would.

Rest in Peace, maestro.
