Bain Boehlke obit

Bain Boehlke, visionary Minneapolis theater founder, dies at 87

His exacting artistry turned a neighborhood playhouse into a theatrical destination.

He was not on the list.

Actor Bain Boehlke, 87, died on Sept. 11. Boehlke was mostly known for Minneapolis-based theater; he founded the Children’s Theater Company and the Jungle Theater, also appearing in such theatrical productions as Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, Hamlet, The House of Blue Leaves, and A Life in the Theater. Onscreen, he played small supporting roles in Fargo, Four Boxes, and Influencer. Actress Michelle Barber said of Boehlke, “He led with his passion, and he didn’t care what you, as a fancy actor, thought. He wanted to deliver the most exquisite work he imagined.”
