Recorded with several stars

Michael B Tretow was a sound engineer at the legendary Metronome Studio in the 1960s and recorded material with, among others, Ted Gärdestad , Pugh Rogefeldt , Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson .

In the 1970s, Björn and Benny chose to let Tretow become Abba's sound engineer and he worked on all of Abba's albums except "Voyage" from 2021.

Abba stars remember Tretow with warmth

Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus, Anni-Frid Lyngstad and Agnetha Fältskog now comment on Tretow's passing for Aftonbladet:

"You meant more to the four of us in Abba than anyone else. I hope and believe you felt it through all the years that have passed since we worked (and laughed non-stop) in the studio. Our music lives on, it seems, and you are the one who made it sound timeless," says Benny Andersson.

"You were a fantastic inspirer and joy-maker. And the finest sound engineer the world has ever seen. I miss you. And I've saved all your coconuts!", he concludes.

"His importance to Abba cannot be overestimated. He was a warm, generous person and a good friend. Thank you, Micke, for all the laughs!", he writes.

"You were the security in our little studio bubble with your never-ending creativity, warmth and joy and no one fit the bill as well as you! For us, you are forever a part of the ABBA sound and you will never be forgotten!", says Anni-Frid Lyngstad.

Agnetha Fältskog talks about her last meeting with Tretow and sends a final greeting to her friend.

"Dear Micke. So glad I got to spend some time with you a few weeks ago... You were so sick, but your laughter and humor were still there... So many memories are preserved, your encouraging words during the recordings meant so much. We are sad now, a talented and unique person has left us. Sleep well Micke, you are in our hearts forever," Fältskog writes to Aftonbladet.

Michael B Tretow is said to have created the classic Abba sound and was very important to the group.

He continued to work with Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson even after Abba had split up and was, among other things, a sound engineer on the "Chess" album.

He also released some songs that became cult hits such as "Den makalosa manicken" and "Hubba hubba zoot zoot" under the group name Caramba.
