Christiane Hirt (Gabriella Christiane Läuchli, Christiane Shaw), 58, of Calgary, Alberta, passed away on October 24, 2026, at the Rosedale Hospice after a two-year journey through cancer. Christiane was a highly regarded Actor, Teacher, Director and Writer. Christiane was born on March 20, 1968, in Brugg, Switzerland in the Canton of Aargau. At age two she moved to Vancouver, Canada where she grew up in the West End and North Vancouver. She graduated from the Waldorf High School in 1986. At the age of thirteen, after sustaining an injury as a competitive figure skater she turned her attention to the study of acting under June Whittaker and later at the HB Studio in NYC. At fifteen she landed her first major role in the film Glitterdome opposite James Garner and Colleen Dewhurst. At seventeen, she was nominated for a Gemini Award as best actress for Skate (Blades of Courage). As a busy Canadian actor, she would continue to have a prolific career of lead and supporting lead roles co-starring with Russell Crowe in For the Moment, Hannah in the tv series Lonesome Dove and receiving the Ampia award for the lead role of Jenny in Heart of the Sun. She co-founded Company of Rogues Actors Studio with husband and partner Joe-Norman Shaw in 1993 and Rogues West in 2014. Company of Rogues still flourishes today as a testament to her vision for training actors. Christiane is much beloved as both actor and teacher inspiring a generation of actors. She is also an accomplished writer of numerous screenplays and her beautiful play The West End played to acclaim at the Pumphouse Theatre in Calgary, starring her daughter Sophia Hirt and directed by her husband. She would also study and graduate as a therapist from Rhodes Wellness College during her illness. She is survived by her husband Joe-Norman Shaw, daughter Sophia Hirt and her wife Audrey Baunez, cousin Natasha Martina Koechl, stepbrother Christopher Felzmann and her beloved Jesse and Emmy. Christiane will be cremated and a Celebration of Life will be held November 1, 2026, at 2:00 pm, at the Joyce on 4th, Calgary. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Rosedale Hospice who made her last days peaceful and filled with love and kindness. The family sends a big thanks to all the caregivers at Rosedale Hospice and the Peter Lougheed Centre.
