She was not on the list.

Kate Beckinsale's mother, Judy Loe died on Tuesday, July 15, at age 78

The actress announced the news on Instagram

Although no cause of death was given, the news came after Beckinsale revealed that Loe had been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in July 2024

Kate Beckinsale is mourning the death of her mom, Judy Loe.

The actress, 51, shared via a touching Instagram tribute Thursday, July 17, that her mother died on Tuesday, July 15. She was 78. The news comes after Beckinsale revealed that Loe had been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in July 2024.

In her post, Beckinsale said that she was only sharing the news of her mom's death because she had to register a death certificate that she knows "will soon become public record."

"She died the night of July 15th in my arms after immeasurable suffering," said Beckinsale.

Although the post includes photos and videos of Loe, Beckinsale said she had "not picked all the best photos, nor the best videos, because I cannot bear to go through my camera roll yet."

"I deeply apologise to any of her friends who are finding out this way or through the press, but I cannot go through her phone . I am paralysed. Jude was the compass of my life ,the love of my life, my dearest friend," said Beckinsale.

"The vastness and huge heart of this tiny woman has touched so many people who love her dearly. She has been brave in so many ways, forgiving sometimes too much , believing in the ultimate good in people and the world is so dim without her that it is nearly impossible to bear," she continued.

Beckinsale ended her post by penning a personal message to her mom: "Mama, I love you so much. This has been my greatest fear since finding my father dead at five and I am here. Oh my Mama.. I’m sorry, I’m so sorry. I am so sorry."

Back in February 2025, Beckinsale returned to Instagram after taking down all her posts to ask for prayers for her mom.

“I wasn’t going to come back to Instagram," Beckinsale wrote in the caption, "but anyone who has a spare prayer or magic or miracle or sunbeam please send it to my mama, my most extraordinary, warrior, generous, humble, loving, unique, irreplaceable Mama." She did not elaborate on her mother’s health at the time in the post.

Judy Loe was born Judith Margaret Loe in Urmston, Manchester, England, to Nancy (Jones), a department store worker, and Norman Scarborough Loe, who worked in equipment business. She graduated from the University of Birmingham, England, with a BA in English and Drama.

With her late husband, actor Richard Beckinsale, she is the mother of actress Kate Beckinsale.
