Bill Krisher obit

Former OU football All-American Bill Krisher dies at 89

He was not on the list.

Bill Krisher, an All-American guard at OU in the late 1950s, died Tuesday in Dallas.

Krisher was 89.

Krisher was born in Perry and starred at Midwest City High School before joining Bud Wilkinson’s Sooners.

After being a third-team All-American in 1956, Krisher was a consensus All-American for the Sooners in 1957.

That season, OU’s record 47-game winning streak ended with a loss to Notre Dame.

In 2019, The Oklahoman placed him No. 50 on the list of greatest Sooner football players ever.

Krisher was drafted by the Steelers in the third round in 1958, and went on to be a two-time American Football League All-Star with the Dallas Texans.

Krisher was a longtime Fellowship of Christian Athletes executive who remained in Dallas after his retirement.

In 1999, The Oklahoman put Krisher on the Oklahoma high school football All-Century third team.

He was inducted into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame in 2017.

Krisher played two seasons in the AFL from 1960 to 1961 for the Dallas Texans. He was named All-AFL in 1960 and an AFL Western Division All-Star in 1961.

A memorial service for Krisher is planned for September.
