Tributes from the world of boxing are pouring in following the sad passing of American fighter Carson Jones at the age of 38.
The Okalhoma boxer has died due to complications that arose from gastrointestinal (GI) surgery and stepped into the ring for the 63rd and final time when he defeated James Warren in his home city back in October 2023. Jones - who accumulated a record of 44 wins, 16 defeats and three draws - was a former NABA light-welterweight champion, and was ranked by the International Boxing Federation as the fourth best fighter in his weight division in 2012.
Jones' most high profile bouts came in two fights against future world champion Kell Brook in 2012 and 2013 and against Mexico's former two-weight world champion Antonio Margarito in 2017. The experienced American was also a sparring partner for several superstars in the sport including Canelo Alvarez, Alvarez, Gennady Golovkin, and Terence Crawford.
And after his death was announced on Saturday, figures from around the boxing world were quick to pay their respects. Former IBF super-middleweight world champion Caleb Truax wrote: "Rest in paradise to my man. Boxing lost a good one, too early", while boxing promoter and manager Sam Jones added: Such sad news about Carson Jones."
British A-star referee Mark Lyson said: "Very sad to hear the news about the passing of Carson Jones at just 38. RIP Champ."
