Peter Navy Tuiasosopo Dies: ‘Street Fighter’, ‘Necessary Roughness’ Actor Was 61

He was not on the list.

Veteran TV and film actor Peter Navy Tuiasosopo, known for his work on Street Fighter, Necessary Roughness and The Fast and the Furious among many others, died Monday, his son Manoah Peter Tuiasosopo announced on Facebook. He was 61.

“With a heavy heart, my family and I want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. Our father Peter N. Tuiasosopo passed away this morning at 3:16 am,” he wrote. A cause of death was not revealed in the Facebook post, but his son told TMZ his father died from heart complications in Phoenix, Arizona.

“My dad lived an amazing life and in no way does his impact stop here,” he wrote in part. “His strength, love, compassion, and kindness will forever be felt.”

Tuiasosopo began his acting career in 1991 with his first film role as Manumana “the Slender”, the committed and respectful center on the fictional reconstructed Texas State “Fighting Armadillos” football team in Necessary Roughness.

He went on to co-star in his first television series Danger Theatre as detective Al Hamoki opposite Adam West. His subsequent television credits include the role of custodian and ex-sumo wrestler Yoshi Nakamura in the Disney series Kickin’ It. He guest-starred in numerous series including NCIS as Charles Kang/Chucky Bang, Mob City, Ray Donovan, black-ish, Mayans M.C. and most recently Magnum P.I. He recurred in New Girl as “Big Bob.”

His other film credits include the role of Willie Dumaine in 12 Rounds with John Cena, as well as Batman & Robin, BASEketball, Charlie’s Angels, Austin Powers in Gold Member and The Scorpion King, among others.

His son says the family is planning a Celebration of Life and will announce details when finalized.
