Doctor Who and Auf Wiedersehen, Pet star Maya Woolfe dies aged 72
She was not on the list.
BBC Doctor Who and Auf Wiedersehen, Pet actress Maya Woolfe has died at the age of 72.
The actress appeared in some of TV’s biggest shows in her almost 20-year career with her last acting credit in The Detectives, in 1994.
Over the years she starred in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet as Uli, Doctor Who in 1983 as a hotel receptionist, and was Anna Jensen in Triangle that same year.
The official social media account of drama Auf Wiedersehen, Pet announced the news.
‘With sadness we announce the passing of Maya Woolfe who played Uli in Auf Wiedersehen Pet Series 1, Episode 11, The Lovers,’ theywrote.
‘Maya’s many TV appearances included The Professionals, Bergerac, and Doctor Who.
‘We send our deepest sympathy to family and friends at this difficult time.’
In her pivotal role in the 1983 drama Auf Wiedersehen, Pet – broadcast on ITV and the BBC – Woolfe becomes the love interest of Jimmy Nail’s Oz Osbourne.
The scene has been branded one of the best in the series, as fans noted when they saw the news of her death.
‘That’s sad news. She played a great part in another great episode. RIP Maya x’ said @villandan, while Karl Turner said: ‘So sad to hear and my deepest condolences to her family and friends. I am in the middle of a rewatch and that is my next episode! Going to be very poignant. So very sad.’
Sad news. One of the best ever episodes,’ said Wayne Lynn, while Gary Brookes reminisced: ‘Part of the best quote in Series 1: Uli: “So until then, you are just one of the boys?” Oz: “Look again Pet, one of the men”.’
The series ran from 1983 until 2004, and followed a group of Geordie construction workers who travel to Germany to work on a construction site in Düsseldorf.
It also starred Timothy Spall as Barry Taylor, Tim Healy as Dennis Patterson, Kevin Whatley as Neville Hope, Christopher Fairbank as Alberty Moxey and Pat Roach as Bomber Busbridge.
In 2020 Healy said the show had been ruined by ‘political correctness gone mad’
Tim replied to a fan raving about the first episode, saying: ‘Thank you Lauren but it’s such a shame all the gags have gone. So the rhythm of the scenes have become stilted and awkward.’
Clearly not too happy with how the show has been edited, Tim went on to say: ‘Political correctness gone mad !!’
