Seizō Fukumoto obit

Actor Seizo Fukumoto dies at age 77. Nicknamed "The man who was slashed 50,000 times."

He was not on the list.

It was revealed on the 4th that actor Seizo Fukumoto (real name Seizo Hashimoto), nicknamed "The Man Who Was Slashed 50,000 Times" in period dramas, died of lung cancer at his home in Kyoto City on the 1st. He was 77 years old. He was from Hyogo Prefecture. In accordance with the wishes of the deceased, a family funeral has already been held with only his relatives.

Born in 1943 (Showa 18). After graduating from junior high school, he became the successor of a rice store run by a relative, but in 1959 he joined Toei Kyoto Studio. In his late 20s, he specialized in playing the role of a person who gets killed, and as a "supporting actor," he appeared in almost all period dramas produced by Toei Kyoto and its affiliates. He was also cast in works other than Toei as a "person who gets killed." He

He also appeared in the 1978 TV period drama "The Intrigue of the Yagyu Clan" (Fuji TV) and the 1982 film "Iga Ninja Scroll." In 2002, he appeared in the Hollywood film "The Last Samurai," playing a silent samurai who never answers no matter how many times he is spoken to. He

He retired from Toei in 2003, but continued his acting career while remaining registered with Toei as a contract actor. In 2006, he appeared in the NHK Taiga drama "Koumyo ga Tsuji" as a person who gets killed. In 2014, he played his first leading role in the film "Uzumasa Limelight," playing the role of a "veteran actor dedicated to playing the role of a person who gets killed." He received the 27th Japan Academy Prize Association Special Award in 2004.

His books include "Someone's Watching Over Me Somewhere - Fukumoto Seizo, Japan's No. 1 Slashed Man" (2001), which tells the story of his life, and in 2012, his essay about his way of life, "The Man Who Was Slashed 50,000 Times," was included in a supplementary moral education textbook for third-year junior high school students.
