King Sporty Passes Away
He was not on the list.
Best known for his song “Buffalo Soldiers”, which was written for Bob Marley, Noel Williams, aka King Sporty, made his transition today, with his wife R&B Legend, Betty Wright at his bedside.
King Sporty was the Recipient of the International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA) Lifetime honor in 2010 in New York and was a sponsor and presenter at the recently held 33rd IRAWMA in South Florida last October 2014.
King Sporty was a 30-year friend of IRAWMA’s producer, Ephraim Martin
King Sporty (born Noel G. Williams, September 19, 1943, Port Antonio, Jamaica (died on January 5, 2015, Miami, FL) was a Jamaican DJ, reggae musician, and record producer for the Tashamba and Konduko labels. He is best known for co-authoring the Bob Marley song, “Buffalo Soldier“.
In 2013 Noel’s song “Self Destruct” was sampled by Justin Timberlake for his song “That Girl” on his 20/20 Experience album.
