Known as Dozy, the bassist in the chart topping 60s pop group died on Tuesday 13 January

He was not on the list.

Tributes have been paid to 1960s’ chart star Trevor Ward-Davies, better known as Dozy from Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich, who has died aged 70.

His bandmate Ian Amey, better known as Tich, told The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald: “He was very good fun to be with, a very good friend for many, many years and he will be terribly missed.

“It was his band. It all started off with Dozy before it ever got to Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich.”

The paper reported that Ward-Davies, who played bass in the band, died on Tuesday aged 70. He lived in Patney near Devizes in Wiltshire.

The group got their name from their respective nicknames, with Ward-Davies christened Dozy after he unwrapped a bar of chocolate and threw it away and ate the wrapper instead.

They scored eight Top 10 hits from 1965 to 1968 and topped the charts with Legend Of Xanadu which was later covered by Mancunian New Wave legends The Fall.
