‘Last Tango in Paris’ Actress Veronica Lazar Dies at 75

She also starred in the 1980 Dario Argento horror classic "Inferno" and appeared in Michelangelo Antonioni's "Identification of a Woman."

 She was not on the list.

Veronica Lazar, the Romanian-born actress who appeared in Bernardo Bertolucci‘s Last Tango in Paris and Dario Argento‘s cult horror classic Inferno, died June 8 in Rome, according to Italian media reports. She was 75.

 

Lazar made her film debut as the wife of Marlon Brando who commits suicide in Bertolucci’s erotic drama Last Tango (1973) and appeared in Luna (1979), The Sheltering Sky (1990), Besieged (1998) and the Cannes out-of-competition film Me and You (2012) for the director.

 

In Inferno, the second part of director Argento’s “Three Mothers” trilogy, Lazar played the nurse who turns out to be one of the three Sorrows, Mater Lachrymarum (The Lady of Tears). She also worked with him in The Stendhal Syndrome (1996).

 

 

Lazar also had roles in Lucio Fulci‘s horror film The Beyond (1981) and Michelangelo Antonioni‘s Identification of a Woman (1982).

 

She was married to Italian actor Adolfo Celi — the eyepatch-wearing villain in the James Bond film Thunderball — from 1966 until his death in 1986.
