Evelyn Marie Cox Hobbs Has Died
She was not on the list.
Evelyn Marie Cox Hobbs, 66, of Vivian, Louisiana passed away peacefully at her home on May 5, 2026, surrounded by her friends and family. She is preceded in death by her parents Willard and Marie Cox of Cotton Valley, La and her father and mother-in-law William M. Sr. and Irene Hobbs of Vivian, La. She is survived by her husband of 49 years William “Marv” Hobbs Jr, her two daughters Melody and Christin (husband Brad), and her three grandchildren, Liam, Camden and Brynn. She is also survived by her sister Lynn Thurman, brother Sidney Cox (wife Christie), and sister Suzanne Ratcliff (husband Bob). Also left to mourn her passing were many nieces, nephews, and brothers and sisters in law.
She was born on June 20, 1959, and raised in Cotton Valley, Louisiana. At an early age it was obvious that God had blessed her with a gift. As one of the founding members of the Cox Family, she graced many stages in the world alongside her father, brother and two sisters. She has been able to perform with many amazing artists and musicians throughout her career including Alison Krauss, Dolly Parton, Charlie Daniels and the Counting Crows. She has also been honored with two Grammy Awards and three Grammy nominations. Her musical talents had no boundaries. But her love of music didn’t ever stop once the show was over. You could always find her picking her guitar and singing at most every family gathering. When she wasn’t on stage performing, she was tending to an even higher priority, her grandchildren. Whether it was tea parties, taking the kids swimming, or loading the living room with Christmas gifts, she was a very devoted grandmother who gave her all for her babies. She will be greatly missed.
Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 8, 2026, at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Vivian. Visitation will begin at 1 pm with services following at 2 pm. Gravesite service to follow immediately after at Mt. Gilead Cemetery.
