Promising Young Rapper Dead at 21: ‘Always Brought Good Energy’

He was not on the list.

Maxon Margiela — a rapper from Orlando whose real name was Mason Reyes — died at the age of 21 on Sunday, November 16.

The Orange County, Florida medical examiner confirmed the news to Men’s Journal on Monday, November 17.

According to Somos Hermanos, Reyes’ sister reported on social media that he passed away following a suicide attempt.

The artist, best known for his viral hit “Austin Powers,” had just signed a record deal in July, per the Daily Mail, and released several tracks in October. He shared a video from “Kiss The Future” in his final Instagram post on October 10.

“Rest in paradise Maxon Margiela. Fr one of the most genuine in the scene always brought good energy,” read one of many tribute posts on X.

“Every time I saw him, he was genuinely one of the friendliest people you could meet and he truly loved every one of his fans,” added another, while others noted on Reddit that he “got sooo much hate from ppl” and urged their friends to reach out if they’re going through mental health issues.
