Chuck Potthast Dies: ‘90 Day Fiancé’ Star Was 64
He was not on the list.
Chuck Potthast, the father of 90 Day Fiancé‘s Elizabeth Castravet, has died at 64.
In a post on social media, Elizabeth broke the news that the beloved TLC star had died.
“Two weeks ago, tragedy struck our family, and it has left
us completely shattered,” Elizabeth shared on Instagram, along with a photo of
her family with her late father. “My sweet, loving, and caring dad went to
heaven. We’re trying to figure out how to navigate our lives and move forward
without him.”
Elizabeth ended the post by asking for respect in their privacy “during this difficult time.”
Potthast died of glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.
Potthast was heavily featured in Elizabeth’s journey on 90 Day Fiancé as she got engaged to her now husband, Andrei Castravet. Elizabeth’s family had a difficult time accepting Andrei because they didn’t know whether his intentions were genuine. Potthast bailed out Elizabeth on multiple occasions as Andrei adapted to life in the U.S. and made a living to support his family, as Elizabeth had been accustomed to.
In a 2022 episode of 90 Day Diaries, Potthast opened up
about being diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2016. Potthast recalled that when
he was diagnosed with cancer, his bladder could not be saved, and he had a
urine pouch. In the episode, Potthast reflected on his life and began focusing
on himself and his health. After losing weight, he went shopping for new
clothes with his daughter, Jenn.
On September 14, Potthast shared a health update from his hospital bed, saying, “My surgery was supposed to be about three to four hours long to fix hernias from my previous cancer operations that had developed. Once they got in there, they seen that my stomach wall had completely collapsed, so they had to fix that, which they did.”
Potthast had a good sense of humor following the surgery, joking that the “benefit” of the long surgery was that he now had “a flat stomach, which is cool,” adding, “I wanted to thank everyone for their prayers and support. It really helped me get through it.”
Following the death of his father, his daughter Becky also shared a post paying tribute to her late father.
“Two weeks ago on this day my world became distorted into a place I don’t understand. My father Chuck went home to be with The Lord. The pain is still more than I can bare so this is all I can write,” she wrote on Instagram.
