Robert B. Harvey, born in Burley, Washington, November 17. 1934, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at Fairfield Medical Center, Lancaster, Ohio.

Robert was the youngest of five children born to Frank and Eleanor Harvey, who were married January 1, 1912 in South Sioux City, Nebraska. He was the original bassist for the Jefferson Airplane.

Harvey is survived by his three sons, Robert, Wesley and Jebin Harvey, also by his first wife, Elizabeth Jo Atwood and his current wife, Joyce Russell.

A memorial service to honor Robert will be held Sunday, April 6, 2025 at 2 PM in Allen Chapel, 221 E. Mulberry Street, Lancaster, Ohio.

Private graveside services will be held at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Lancaster.

Harvey joined Jefferson Airplane in 1965 playing acoustic bass. In October 1965, the band felt he was not up to par, and he was replaced by Jack Casady.

Harvey co-founded the bluegrass group the Slippery Rock String Band and he was in the Holy Mackerel, with Paul Williams who recorded the song "Wildflowers". He was also in San Francisco Blue with Brian Fowler, the band was later named Georgia Blue.

In 2018, Harvey played in a duo with a local guitar player named Randy Gleason out of Lancaster, Ohio.
