Roy Cape dies at 82
He was not on the list.
Musician and bandleader Roy Cape has died.
He was 82 years old.
His daughter Jo-Ann Cape Julien confirmed his passing.
“At this time, the family of Dr Roy Cape would like to confirm his passing. This is a very difficult time for the family. Please keep us all in your prayers. As soon as details are arranged (we) will notify the public,” she wrote on Facebook.
Several tributes followed news of Cape’s passing.
Calypsonian Kurt Allen sated on Facebook: “We have shared great memories to last lifetimes and I will be forever thankful for the opportunities that you provided since I was the age of 17. Walk Real Good!!!!”
Austin “Superblue” Lyons wrote: “This is a very sad night for me. When I hear the passing of my great and loving friend Dr Roy Cape this one hit me every hard. Every week we talk and laugh about the old times we had traveling and performing all over the world.
May you Rest In Peace, Fly with the Angels above. Until we meet again.”
Republic Bank Exodus Steelband stated on Facebook: “XO started producing shows with Roy Cape: Explosion’83, Scarlet Ibis Carpark
Rest in the Eternal Peace Brother Roy.”
Cape, a saxophonist, was a band musician for more than 50 years and a bandleader for more than 30.
He also played the clarinet and the steelpan. He began playing with several bands including Clarence Curvan and Sparrow Trg healing to communities through music education.oubadors in the 1960s.
In 2011 he received an Honorary Doctor of Letters from The University of West Indies, St Augustine.
