Boro Jovanović obit

Boro Jovanovic has died.

He was not on the list.

One of the best Croatian tennis players of all time, Boro Jovanović, is no longer with us. He passed away at the age of 85, after leaving an indelible mark on Croatian and world tennis. Last year, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award in Tennis from the Croatian Tennis Association, in recognition of his immense contribution to the sport and the results he achieved. With Nikola Pilić, he was a finalist at Wimbledon in doubles in 1962, and on two occasions (once with Pilić, once alone) he was named the best athlete of Yugoslavia in the traditional selection of Sportske novosti.

He also won gold at the Mediterranean Games in pairs with Pilić, and bronze in singles, and in his professional era he had several notable results at some of the biggest tournaments, which today can be compared to competitions from the ATP Masters 1000 series.

He was born in Zagreb on October 21, 1939, and after ending his playing career in 1974, he also worked as a tennis coach. The International Tennis Federation (ITF) awarded him a special contribution to the Davis Cup in 2016. The date of the final farewell will be announced later, and we express our deepest condolences to Bora Jovanović's family.
