Amp Fiddler obit

 Amp Fiddler Has Died

He was not on the list.

American musician and producer Amp Fiddler has died.

The Detroit based figure suffered an unknown illness last year, and had been struggling with his health during 2023. A fundraiser had been planned to take place in his home city this month, but it appears Amp Fidder’s health went into decline.

Numerous sources has confirmed that the legendary musician and producer passed away overnight (December 17th).

In a note, FAITH called him “the king of the new era of Detroit Soul”.

Amp Fiddler came to prominence with the band Enchantment, before embarking on a decade-long stint working alongside Parliament and Funkadelic guru George Clinton. Helping to expand the lexicon of post-disco R&B, Amp Fiddler developed a singular voice.

Able to move between the stage and the studio, his natural grasp of funk and open-minded nature made him the perfect mentor for a generation of Detroit producers. Uncovering the young J Dilla, he granted the seminal hip-hop producer his first Akai MPC sampler, and introduced him to the Tribe Called Quest creative vortex.

It’s not just in hip-hop that Amp Fiddler’s influence can be traced – he mentored the prodigal Moodymann, allowing his creative voice to linger in the deepest of deep house.

Blessed Madonna writes: “Absolutely shattering loss. Peace to Detroit especially. Amp Fiddler was the best of the best. The glue in so much important music and the center of a lot really special musical lives. Nothing but respect for his time here with us.”

iMantus salutes the passing of a legend: “Our soulful brother Amp Fiddler has passed away. From when I heard he wasn’t to well I was praying for his health to get better and hope that he’ll be back in the studio making music. Condolences to his close friends and family.”
