Ivano Marescotti Died, The Italian Director And Actor Was 77 Years Old

Ivano Marescotti passed away this afternoon after being admitted to the civil hospital of Ravenna due to the worsening of his physical conditions.

Today is died the great actor and director Ivan Marescotti at the age of 77, completed on February 4th. The famous performer, originally from Bagnacavallo, passed away this afternoon due to the worsening of his physical conditions due to a serious illness he had been battling for some time.

In February last year Marescotti announced, through an interview with Corriere, that he had decided to devote himself to his theater school based in Ravenna, putting an end to his acting career, a path that began by chance many years ago: “After the art school I enrolled in the Faculty of Architecture, then I was hired as a clerk in the Urban Planning office in the Municipality of Ravenna, I was in charge of the master plan, a job that I did until the age of 35“.

“In 1981, a friend of mine asked me to replace him in a show and I still wonder why he had thought of me, given that I had no stage experience. Without art, or part, without knowing the actor’s trade, I decided to quit and accept this adventure which, at the beginning, promised to be a unique opportunity in every sense. I abandoned the certain for the absolute uncertain, I didn’t know where I would end up and I couldn’t advise anyone to make such a radical choice“, the actor recalled.

During his long career Ivano Marescotti has worked with many important faces of Italian cinema and theater such as Leo de Berardinis, Mario Martone, Carlo Cecchi, Giampiero Solari, Giorgio Albertazzi, Marco Martinelli. The actor, interpreter of over fifty films, has worked with directors of the caliber of Anthony Minghella, Ridley Scott, Roberto Benigni, Pupi Avati, Maurizio Nichetti, Carlo Mazzacurati and Antonello Grimaldi.

Born in Villanova di Bagnacavallo, province of Ravenna, Marescotti worked as a clerk in the urban sector of the Councillorship of Ravenna. He began acting at 35 years old, first in local amateur stage works, then in some major stage companies.

After acting in small film roles, Marescotti had his breakout role in 1991 as Tobia the chemist in Silvio Soldini's comedy film The Peaceful Air of the West. From then Marescotti started appearing in dozens of films, usually in supporting roles, establishing himself as one of the most active character actors in the Italian cinema of the 1990s and 2000s. In recent years, he took part in several international productions.

In 2004 he won a Silver Ribbon for the short film Assicurazione sulla vita. In 2007 he was elected to the regional constituent assembly of the Democratic Party in Bologna.

Marescotti died in Ravenna on 26 March 2023, at the age of 77.
