Actor Emory Bass Dies at 89

He appeared on stage opposite Debbie Reynolds, Lauren Bacall and Art Carney. 

He was not on the list.


Emory Bass, a veteran actor of stage and screen, died March 4 at the Motion Picture Home in Woodland Hills, publicist Harlan Boll announced. He was 89.

Bass appeared on Broadway in Terrence McNally’s Bad Habits and in revivals of Kiss Me Kate, Pal Joey, Lysistrata and Irene (with Debbie Reynolds). He had a role in the 1969 original musical comedy 1776, then worked on the 1972 film version.

A native of Valdosta, Ga., Bass took to the road with the productions Glad Tidings with Tallulah Bankhead, Everybody Loves Opal with Nancy Walker, Time Out for Ginger with Art Carney and Woman of the Year with Lauren Bacall.

On television, he had a recurring role on the 1979-80 ABC sitcom Angie, starring Donna Pescow, and appeared on Kojak, Mr. Belvedere, Webster and Murder, She Wrote.
