Hubert de la Bouillerie obit

Hubert de la Bouillerie Dies: Editor On ‘Woodstock’, ‘Witches Of Eastwick’, ‘Rollerball’ & Others Was 75

He was not on the list.

Hubert de la Bouillerie, a film editor whose credits range from the influential documentary Woodstock, And Justice for All and Rollerball to The Witches of Eastwick, two Police Academy movies, Tango and Cash and Celtic Pride, has died. He was 75.

De la Bouillerie died August 8 in Los Angeles, but his death is just being reported by his family. His sister Annie Goeke-de la Bouillerie said he had battled a long-term illness and was in hospice the last two weeks of his life.

De la Bouillerie began his career on a high note as an editor on the Oscar-winning documentary Woodstock, which chronicled the landmark 1969 music festival that defined the counterculture generation.

Thelma Schoonmaker earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Film Editing.

He went on to work as an assistant editor on such 1970s and early-’80s films as Rollerball, And Justice for All and Firefox along with TV’s Roots: The Next Generations and Supertrain before landing his first editor credit with the 1985 jailhouse comedy Doin’ Time.

From there, de la Bouillerie editor such features as Highlander II: The Quickening, For Better or Worse, Other People’s Morey, Mo’ Money, Blank Check, Celtic Pride and the fifth and sixth installments of comedy franchise Police Academy.

He also directed some films in the mid-1990s, telepics including The Right to Remain Silent and The Apocalypse and a 2005 episode of David E. Kelley’s ABC legal drama Boston Legal. In all, he cut more than 30 movies and TV programs during a three-decade career.

Born on January 28, 1951, in France, de la Bouillerie was educated in that country and served in its military. Most of his adult and professional life was spent in the U.S., particularly in Los Angeles.

He also was an accomplished photographer and writer. His debut novel Of Love and Evil: The Birth was published in 2012.

De la Bouillerie is survived by his children Jacqueline Bell and Alexandre de la Bouillerie and siblings Annie Goeke, Caroline Gruber, Juliette Glazebrook, Diane Cottrell, Helie de la Bouillerie and Alban de la Bouillerie. He was predeceased by his wife of 25 years, Debbie Robins-de la Bouillerie, who worked on many of his projects and died in 2015.
