Christian Heavy Metal 2026 – The Legacy of Faith and Steel

A wider map of the tradition, continuity and living legacy behind classic Christian heavy metal.

There are musicians who become part of a scene.

And there are musicians who help create one.

Björn Stigsson belonged to the second group.

The guitarist, songwriter and one of the main creative forces behind Swedish Christian metal pioneers Leviticus has died. For generations of listeners who discovered that heavy guitars and an uncompromising Christian message did not have to exist in separate worlds, his name carries a significance that reaches far beyond one band’s discography.

He was part of the foundation of the scene.

The continuing relationship between pioneers, living legacy and new Christian metal can also be seen in our coverage of Stryper and the new “Throne of Thorns” chapter.
