In Memory of Ron Woodbridge
He was not on the list.
Very sad to hear that one of Edinburgh’s best loved showmen has died. Shorty Rogers a.k.a. Ronnie Woodbridge originally from Liverpool has been a regular on the local scene for the past 60+ years. A lovely, funny, rockin’ frontman, who I’ve shared a stage with many times. RIP RW.
I was saddened to learn of the passing of Ron Woodbridge. Ron was with me the day we watched John Wayne give us the unforgettable name still famous today!
This picture is from when I met Ron at the Edinburgh Playhouse in 2013
Goodbye Ron
Gone but not forgotten
~ Mike Pender
He was a member of The Searchers, an English rock group
formed in Liverpool in 1959. Part of the Merseybeat scene, they flourished
during the British Invasion of the 1960s, with hits including "Sweets for
My Sweet", "Love Potion No. 9", "Sugar and Spice",
"Needles and Pins", "Don't Throw Your Love Away",
"When You Walk in the Room", "What Have They Done to the
Rain" and "Goodby My Love". With the Swinging Blue Jeans, the
Searchers tied for being the second group from Liverpool, after the Beatles, to
have a hit in the US, when their "Needles and Pins" and the Swinging
Blue Jeans' "Hippy Hippy Shake" both reached the Hot 100 on 7 March
1964.
