Francesco Cinquemani, Renowned Italian Director and Screenwriter, Dies at 46

Francesco Cinquemani was 46 years old. The Roman screenwriter and director died yesterday in a hospital in the capital after a brief illness. Born on May 26, 1978, he became an author, screenwriter, and director after a long career as a journalist with collaborations with Emporio Armani Magazine, Rockstar, Tutto e Tv, Sorrisi e Canzoni. Francesco Cinquemani, director of Andron, dies at 46: he had created the first theater group within Rebibbia. He wrote, produced, and directed more than seventy short films, animated and otherwise. His directorial debut was 'Andròn: The Black Labyrinth' (2015), followed by 'Beyond the Edge - I maestri dell'illusione' (2018), with Antonio Banderas and Milos Bikovic in the cast. One of his most appreciated works is 'La rosa velenosa' (2019), co-directed with George Gallo and Luca Giliberto: the film won the award for best international direction at the Terra di Siena Film Festival, consolidating Cinquemani's reputation in the sector. This was followed by the docufilm 'Lockdown Generation' (2021), 'Ladri di Natale' (2021), 'Vote for Santa' (2021), 'La buona strega del Natale' (2021), 'The Ghosts of Monday' (2022), 'Muti - The Ritual Killer', co-directed with George Gallo and Luca Giliberto (2023), 'Sherlock Santa' (2023), 'Natale con i Puffins' (2023), and 'Kid Santa' (2023). His last work was 'Il magico mondo di Billie' (2024), a children's film that represents a change of direction compared to his previous darker works: this project was inspired by significant personal experiences and aims to convey a message of hope. In theater, he was for years the director of the 'Compagnia Stabile Assai', the first penitentiary theater group in Italy within the Rebibbia prison. The funeral will be held on Monday, December 16, at 11 a.m., in the church of Santa Prisca on the Aventine in Rome.
