Denys Graham 1926 - 2024 R.I.P. 

He was not on the list.


Before entering RADA, Denys Graham gained an MA in Chemistry and Mathematics at New College, Oxford. He his extensive theatre credits include two years with Sir John Gielgud’s Company at the Phoenix Theatre followed by a season at Stratford-upon-Avon. He played in the original production of Under Milk Wood at the then New Theatre and appeared in many other productions of it on radio and television.

Graham was born in Newport, Monmouthshire, Wales on 29 June 1926. An accomplished pianist, he was educated at New College, Oxford, and trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art.

His extensive and varied theatre work included playing in the original 1956 production of Under Milk Wood at the New Theatre, London and appearing in the original 1955 production of Waiting for Godot at the Arts Theatre, London, directed by Sir Peter Hall. For two years he was a member of Sir John Gielgud’s company at the Phoenix Theatre, London followed by a season with the RSC at Stratford-upon-Avon. His final West End role was playing Victor Witt in Grand Hotel at the Dominion Theatre in 1992. Denys Graham's best known film roles were portraying Flying Officer L.G. Knight DSO in the 1955 film The Dam Busters, Private 716 Robert Jones in the 1964 film Zulu, Private Fraser in the 1958 film Dunkirk, and Kaiser Wilhelm II in the 1979 film All Quiet on the Western Front.

Graham died in October 2024, at the age of 98.
