CINCINNATI (WXIX) - The man, who played a beloved character in a Cincinnati kids’ TV show, has passed away.
Thomas “Tom” McGreevey died at the age of 91 on May 20.
Kids of the 70s might remember McGreevey as Mr. Patches from the “Uncle Al Show.”
McGreevey joined the show in 1972 and portrayed the beloved character until 1978.
McGreevey continued his acting career in California after his time in Cincinnati. He retired in 1997.
“Thomas McGreevey’s legacy to Cincinnati as ‘Mr. Patches’ will always be remembered with fondness, and his service to his country with gratitude, and great respect,” his obituary reads. “He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.”
The New York native was more than an actor.
He was a United States Marine and served in the Korean War.
McGreevey spent the past ten years married to his loving wife, Lynn Herazo Gebhart-McGreevey, enjoying life in Clifton, Cincinnati. He is also survived by his loving daughter Katy McGreevey and son-in-law Shawn Sackenheim, his beloved sister Cathy Prescott, niece Veda Caruso, and his step-sons, Keafer and Christian Mock, and their families.
The funeral arrangements for McGreevey are being handled by Spring Grove Funeral Homes.
The “Uncle Al Show” ended in 1985.
In 2009, Al Lewis, the creator of the show and star, died at the age of 84. His wife and co-star, Wanda Lewis, died in 2020. She was 94.
