Freddie Boyd, a former Oregon State All-America guard and an NBA first round draft pick, died Sunday according to the school.
Boyd, 73, played at Oregon State from 1970-72, and his final two years were the first two of the coach Ralph Miller era. The 6-foot-2 guard was inducted into Oregon State Athletics Hall of Fame in 1992.
Boyd won numerous honors during his final two years at Oregon State. Boyd was the Beavers’ most valuable player as a junior and senior, as he set single-season assist records each season. Boyd earned all-Pac-8 and All-America honors as a senior.

Boyd averaged 6.7 assists a game, second only at OSU to Gary Payton.
