Dr. Vivian Horner (1934 - 2022) was the founder of the children's cable television network, Nickelodeon, as well as the writer, producer, and co-creator of its first original series, Pinwheel. The preschool series, Pinwheel, was first aired in 1977 on a local cable station in Ohio. The show was a huge success and, with the help of Warner Media, she expanded it nationwide and launched Nickelodeon in 1979.
She was hired in 1976 due to her experience as the director of research on the PBS show The Electric Company. Dr. Horner eventually retired the channel in 1983. She is a former board chair of the Bank Street College of Education and served on the Board of the National Foreign Language Center.
On May 12 2022, Horner passed away from COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) at the age of 88.
Her memories will be cherished to everyone and kids all alike, if you were watching nickelodeon, you may recognize some of your dreams knowing her that caused every young children to have a smile on their faces. may her rest in peace.
