ACTOR, TEACHER CHRIS MUNCKE DIES AT 79

Christopher Muncke, the actor who portrayed Captain Khurgee in A New Hope has died. The announcement was made by his son Sam on Facebook.

“We are heartbroken to announce that Chris Muncke passed away yesterday morning. We already miss his warm smile, his sharp wit, his amazing storytelling and his unconditional love.”

Originally from Chicago, Muncke joined The Second City as a Theatrical Apprentice in 1960. He received a degree in Dramatic Art from the University of California. In 1967 he moved to London and attended the Webber-Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art and co-founded the London Theatre Group in 1970 with Steven Berkoff.

Muncke was born on July 24th, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois. He moved to the UK and landed several roles in TV series starting in 1974.

His big-screen break came in 1977 opposite Roger Moore as he helped 007 dismantle a nuclear missile in The Spy Who Loved Me.

Following his retirement from acting he became a primary school teacher in Hertfordshire, a second career that would last over 20 years until he retired in 2007.

He also appeared in The Spy Who Loved Me alongside fellow Star Wars actors Anthony Forrest and Garrick Hagon.

A memorial service will be held at the Chilterns Crematorium in Amersham at 10:45 am on April 25th. There will also be a live webcast for those unable to attend in person.
