Yosuke Natsuki passes away at age 81. Starred in "What is Youth?" and other dramas.

He was not on the list.

Actor Yosuke Natsuki died at 10:46 a.m. on the 14th at a hospital in Tokyo due to renal cell carcinoma. He was 81 years old. His friend, writer and Tohoku University of Art and Design professor Kenichi Yamakawa, announced the news on Natsuki's official blog in the early hours of the 19th. The funeral and farewell ceremony will be held only for close relatives. He had a supporting role in the American mini-series Shogun.

According to his agency, he was hospitalized with pneumonia in October last year. He recovered quickly, but at the end of November, while stretching as part of his rehabilitation, he lost strength and collapsed to the floor. After undergoing a detailed examination at the hospital, it was discovered that he had cancer of the thoracic spine, and he was hospitalized.

During his hospital stay, he was able to eat normally and seemed to be in good spirits, joking and chatting with visitors. He was concerned about the canceled work, saying, "I need to get better and get back to work soon." He was expected to be able to leave the hospital by the end of the year, but on December 27th, he suddenly lost consciousness and was admitted to the intensive care unit. He never regained consciousness, and passed away on January 14th of this year, surrounded by his younger brother and other relatives.

Until his hospitalization in October last year, he hadn't fallen ill significantly and was in good health, even going on drives himself.

After graduating from Meiji University in 1983, he joined Toho and appeared in films such as "Yojimbo" directed by Akira Kurosawa.

In 1965, he starred in the Nippon Television drama "What is Youth?" in which he played a teacher, gaining popularity and becoming a pioneer of the school drama boom. In 1966, the film "This is Youth" was also a huge hit. After moving to Mifune Toshiro's independent production company, Mifune Productions, in 1973, he appeared in the popular drama "G-Men '75" and the film "See You" starring Takakura Ken. From 1982, he trained actors such as Kaku Chikako and Nishimura Kazuhiko at his personal office, Natsuki Productions.

As a rally driver, he participated in the Dakar Rally in 1985 and 1986, and from 1987 to 1993 he served as manager of Team Mitsubishi Citizen Natsuki, helping Kenjiro Shinozuka and others to excel.

In 2009, he was hospitalized for treatment for a mild cerebral infarction, and in 2010 underwent surgery to remove a malignant tumor found in his kidney.

He had participated twice in the Dakar Rally as a racing driver.
