Vocalist Jim Haas Has Died
He was not on the list.
We are sad to report that Jim Haas, formerly of The Frantics, has passed away. Jim recorded two albums with The Frantics before pursuing work as a session vocalist. During his post Frantics career, he sang lead vocal on the original Happy Days theme, and arranged and recorded backing vocals on Pink Floyd's album The Wall (#87 on Rolling Stone's 500 greatest albums of all time). He would sing with the band on The Wall tour of 1980-81 and was later a member of Roger Waters' bleeding heart band that performed The Wall in Berlin in 1990. As a session man he also did vocals for John Denver, Neil Diamond, Jackson Browne, David Cassidy, Leif Garrett, and Weird Al Yankovic.
RIP Jim.
Leif Garrett, after Haas' death, explained that in multiple tracks in his earlier albums Haas actually replaced his vocals entirely. The producers had wanted him to "smooth" Garrett's uneven vocals, but made the choice sometimes to replace Garrett entirely on his own albums. In some cases, Garrett's producers even brought in Haas to sing for Garrett behind a curtain during some live concert tour performances. He was a member of Roger Waters' The Bleeding Heart Band.
