Mike McMahon Jr. Has Died

Professional Hockey Player. For eight seasons (1963 to 1966 and 1967 to 1972), he played at the defense position with the New York Rangers, Minnesota North Stars, Chicago Black Hawks, Detroit Red Wings, Pittsburgh Penguins and Buffalo Sabres. The son of former NHL player Mike McMahon whom won a Stanley Cup title with the Montreal Canadiens during the 1940s, he followed his father's path to becoming a professional hockey player and initiated his career with the Fort Erie Meteors Junior C squad of the Ontario Hockey Association in 1959. He marked his NHL debut with the Rangers during the 1964-1965 season and saw substantial ice time the following year (1965-1966) as he played in 41 games. McMahon's most accomplished body of work was in a North Stars' uniform (1967 to 1969). He produced a career-high 14 goals with 33 assists in 74 games during Minnesota's inaugural season in the league (1967-1968). In 224 regular season games, he compiled 15 goals with 68 assists. After retiring from hockey, he worked for a St. Paul, Minnesota publishing company. He died from heart related issues.

 

His father, Mike Sr. also played in the NHL. McMahon was born in Quebec City, Quebec.
