Prominent Bodybuilder Neil Currey Dead at 34
He was not on the list.
British bodybuilder Neil Currey, who competed himself and coached other fitness enthusiasts throughout his prominent career, has passed away at the age of 34.
Currey's former coach, Milo Sarcev, shared the sad news on Instagram on September 12. Alongside a bunch of photos of his former client, Sarcev wrote, "Absolutely shocking, heartbreaking news - that my former athlete @neil_currey died today ������...I am lost for words and filled with pain and sadness. My sincere condolences to his family, friends and loved ones. RIP Neil and God bless your soul. ������������❤️."
Sarcev also shared a personal memory of the late bodybuilder, recalling, "My last/best memory of him was this smiling face after he won New York Pro and fulfilled his lifetime dream of qualifying for the Mr. Olympia.
The company Hosstile, which Currey worked with in the past, also mourned the bodybuilder, adding in their own tribute, "We are extremely saddened by the news of Neil Currey's passing. His dedication to his craft, willingness to support teammates and others, good energy and lightheartedness were what stood out when Neil came to mind."
Generation Iron, which reports on news in the fitness world, also announced Currey's passing. Details about his cause of death and surrounding circumstances have not been confirmed.
The bodybuilding community came together to mourn Currey's death, with many people sharing memories and thoughts in the comments on social media.
One person, who called Currey their "coach" and "friend," wrote on Hosstile's post, "I’m absolutely devastated. This guy influenced me more than anyone had ever in my life. I’m truly devastated."
Other figures in the industry, including Andrei Deiu, Hany Rambod, Dennis Wolf, and Iris Kyle, shared their condolences in reaction to the tragic news.
Currey began his career as a bodybuilder when he first started competing in 2017. Two years later, he made his IFBB debut in the Classic Physique competition, going on to compete all around the world.
He made his dream come true in 2022 when he finished first at the New York Pro, qualifying him for the Mr. Olympia competition. The event occurred late last year, with Currey finishing 16th, but just making it to the Mr. Olympia competition is seen as a major accomplishment in the industry.
