Fitness Influencer Justyn Vicky Dead At 33 After 450 lb. Barbell Hits His Neck At The Gym

The fitness community is mourning the loss of Justyn Vicky, who died after breaking his neck during a gym visit earlier this month. He was 33. Justyn was training at The Paradise Bali gym in Indonesia on July 15 when a barbell that weighed 450 lbs fell on his neck, according to The Daily Mail. The outlet reported that he was being supervised by a spotter while he was doing squat presses when the barbell fell forward onto his neck. The weight caused "a broken neck and critical compression of vital nerves connecting to his heart and lungs," per The Daily Mail. Justyn was then rushed to the hospital where he underwent emergency surgery, but he did not make it.

Justyn Vicky was born Herman Fausi on 7 March 1990 in New York City, as the eldest child and son of the two children of Hermanto and Busia. He was raised and resided in Klungkung Regency, Bali.

Vicky had a son, Jazztian Vicky Hermansyah, from his previous marriage.

Vicky started his career as a bodybuilder at The Paradise Bali gym in Sanur, Denpasar. He became a winner at Ultimate Body Contest in 2011 and often shared educational content about fitness on his social media. He had several times done back squats with different weights starting from 170 kg, 190 kg, and 200 kg. He also provided education about back squats which is one of the most dangerous exercises according to him. Vicky became a winner at Mr. Bali Competition in 2015 and 2016. In 2018, he became the first winner at Muscle Beach Bali competition, followed by the third champion in the same competition in 2019. He won at International Fitness and Bodybuilding Federation competition in 2018.
