Bob Saget found dead at 65
He was not on the list.
Beloved comedian and “Full House” star Bob Saget has died at the age of 65, officials said Sunday.
The actor was found dead in his hotel room at the Ritz-Carlton in Orlando, Florida, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. A cause of death has not been revealed, but officials said there was no sign of foul play.
“Earlier today, deputies were called to the Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes for a call about an unresponsive man in a hotel room. The man was identified as Robert Saget & pronounced deceased on scene,” the department wrote in a statement.
“Detectives found no signs of foul play or drug use in this case,” officials said, adding #BobSaget to the tweet.
Local police and fire departments responded to the hotel around 4 p.m. Sunday after hotel security found the comic in his room, said TMZ, which first reported his death.
In a statement, the Saget family said they were “devastated” to confirm his death.
“He was everything to us and we want you to know how much he loved his fans, performing live and bringing people from all walks of life together with laughter,” the family said in the statement.
“Though we ask for privacy at this time, we invite you to join us in remembering the love and laughter that Bob brought to the world,” they added.
The “Full House” star had just performed a show as part of his tour in Jacksonville, tweeting about how great his set had gone with a selfie at 3:45 Sunday morning.
“Loved tonight’s show @PV_ConcertHall in Jacksonville. Appreciative audience,” he wrote. “Thanks again to @RealTimWilkins for opening. I had no idea I did a 2 hr set tonight. I’m happily addicted again to this s–t. Check http://BobSaget.com for my dates in 2022.”
He had tour dates scheduled in Florida as well as Oklahoma.
Saget was best known for playing patriarch Danny Tanner from 1987 to 1995 on the hit ABC sitcom “Full House,” where he starred alongside John Stamos and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.
He reprised his role as Danny Tanner for Netflix’s reboot of the franchise, “Fuller House,” which ran for four years and ended in 2020.
He gained further fame as the longtime host of the hit series “America’s Funniest Home Videos” from 1989 to 1997.
Far from the loving family-man character he portrayed on “Full House,” Saget had a reputation for his edgy, raunchy stand-up routine.
He was the center of a Comedy Central Roast in 2008, where he traded jabs with several of his comic friends, including his close pal Norm MacDonald, who died from cancer in September.
Saget, who was born in Philadelphia in 1956, was the recipient of an Academy Award when he was just a 20-year-old student at Temple University in 1977 for a black-and-white documentary titled “Through Adam’s Eyes” about his brother’s facial reconstruction surgery after a serious car crash.
The comic made an early TV appearance on “The Dating Game” in 1979 when he won a date as a contestant.
He directed his first comedy film “Dirty Work” in 1998, starring MacDonald and Artie Lange, which has become a cult classic.
Saget made a cameo appearance as a cocaine addict in the stoner comedy “Half Baked,” written by comedian Dave Chapelle, who also starred in the film.
He was the narrator of the future Ted Mosby on the hit CBS series “How I Met Your Mother.”
In 2014, he published an autobiography, “Dirty Daddy: The Chronicles of a Family Turned Filthy Comedian,” in which he wrote about his life from his childhood and “Full House” days, mixed with his irreverent brand of comedy.
Most recently, Saget teamed up with “All Things Comedy” and launched his podcast “Bob Saget’s Here for You,” in which he told stories from his life and had conversations with other comic guests like Tiffany Haddish, Jason Sudeikis, Whoopi Goldberg and Bill Burr.
Golbert Gottfried tweeted out - Still in shock. I just spoke with Bob a few days ago. We stayed on the phone as usual making each other laugh. RIP to friend, comedian & fellow Aristocrat Bob Saget.
Candace Cameron Bure also reacted - I don’t know what to say 💔. I have no words. Bob was one of the best humans beings I’ve ever known in my life. I loved him so much.
I am broken. I am gutted. I am in complete and utter shock. I will never ever have another friend like him. I love you so much Bobby.” Dave Coulier said, “My heart is broken. I love you, Bob. Your forever brother, Dave.”
“We cast a different actor’s voice to be Future Ted because we liked the idea of Future You telling Past You that it’s all gonna be OK, the ups…the downs…you will make it through…thanks for telling us Bob… and making us feel that it’s true,” Craig Thomas wrote.
Comedians from Norman Lear and Billy Crystal to Jon Stewart also shared their reactions to Saget’s untimely passing on Sunday. Gilbert Gottfried said he was “still in shock” upon hearing the news: “I just spoke with Bob a few days ago. We stayed on the phone as usual making each other laugh. RIP to friend, comedian & fellow Aristocrat Bob Saget.” Whoopi Goldberg wrote, “Sail on my friend Bob Saget. With your huge heart and abject lunacy.”
Bob was at my house in October interviewing me for a documentary. He was sharp and dark and funny as always and we were gonna catch up over coffee when he was done editing and now I’m crying FUCK #RIPBobSaget pic.twitter.com/wgrp3cOXGE — Patton Oswalt (@pattonoswalt) January 10, 2022
I know that people lose loved ones, good people, every day. No one gets a pass. But the loss of Bob Saget hits deep. If you didn’t know him, he was kind and dear and cared about people deeply. He was the definition of “a good egg”. Too soon he leaves. #RipBobSaget — jason alexander (@IJasonAlexander) January 10, 2022
Lori Loughlin spoke out After Bob Saget's Death: He 'Was More Than My Friend, He Was My Family'
Jodie Sweetin, who acted alongside Bob Saget for over a decade as Stephanie Tanner on Full House and Fuller House, has shared a tribute post to social media in remembrance of the comedian who died Sunday at 65.
“There aren’t enough words to express what I’m feeling today. Nor are they big enough to capture even a slice of who he was. One thing I do know is that we never missed a chance to tell each other, ‘I love you.’ Every time we talked, there were at least three or four exchanged at the end of a conversation, whether it was text, phone call or in person. And he usually had to have the last word, ‘I love you more,’” she said.
His Full House costar Andrea Barber sang Saget's praises on Monday with an emotional Instagram post.
The actress, 45, shared a candid carousel of throwback photos, including a sweet snap of the pair hugging each other. "This one hurts. 💔 " Barber began. "He had the biggest heart of anyone in Hollywood. He gave the biggest hugs. I am gutted that I will never be able to hug him again.
Scott Weinger shared a touching tribute to his Instagram page on Monday afternoon, writing, “Bob Saget was more than a friend. He was a big brother to me.”
“Nobody ever made me laugh harder, the kind of laughter where your ribs are sore the next day,” he continued. “He was also a wonderful human being who never missed a chance to say ‘I love you’ to the people he cared about.”
Saget is survived by his wife, Kelly Rizzo, and three children.
