Venezuelan singer Anthony Galindo Ibarra died at age 41 in a hospital in Florida on Oct. 3.

According to a statement from his family issued over the weekend, Galindo Ibarra’s death appeared to be tied to a suicide attempt six days ago, after entering deep depression caused by the impact COVID-19 pandemic has had on the music industry.

Known as “El PapiJoe,” Galindo Ibarra had been a member of Menudo since 1995 until its last stages alongside other members including Abel Talamántez and Didier Hernández. He then went on to be part of MDO, born as a result of the dissolution of Menudo, and later on Kumbia Kings.

“It is with great pain that we confirm the death of our beloved Anthony Galindo Ibarra,” the family said in the statement. “The doctors tried do everything to save his life. We are thankful for all the prayers and support to our family during these difficult times and for those who had the opportunity of knowing him.”

According to the family's statement, his organs will be donated as was his last wish to help save other lives.

"We will be informing everyone about the funeral arrangements in the upcoming days. He will forever be in our hearts," the family added.
