RIP The Empire Strikes Back Art Director Alan Tomkins
He was not on the list.
Sad news reaches us as Art Director Alan Tomkins, best known for his work on The Empire Strikes Back, Batman Begins and Saving Private Ryan, has passed away aged 81.
Born in Fulham in 1939, Tomkins worked on Bond movies, projects with Steven Spielberg, 2001 with Stanley Kubrick and a slew of 90’s hits including Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Memphis Belle, Wing Commander with Mark Hamill, and Natural Born Killers.
He won a Primetime Emmy in 1996 for Gulliver’s Travels, but we will always remember him best for his stellar work on Empire, for which he was nominated for an Academy Award.
Tomkins was born in Fulham, London in 1939. Tomkins died on 20 September 2020, at the age of 81.
