Hugh McKenna obit

RIP Hugh McKenna, keybord player for The Sensational Alex Harvey Band

He was not on the list.

Sadly, it seems Hugh McKenna of the Sensational Alex Harvey Band has passed away recently, less than a year after his brother Ted McKenna (the drummer in SAHB), who died in January 2019.

There have been mentions on several message boards, and this week's Planet Rock radio show by Def Leppard's Joe Elliott includes the following:

""And before that we heard the Sensational Alex Harvey Band. And I played that because just a couple of days ago we heard the very very sad news that Hugh McKenna the keyboard played passed away after a long, long illness. What a phenomenal player he was. On piano, on any kind of keyboard. On synthesizer he really did add such a dimension to that band. The album Tomorrow Belongs To Me. The song that we heard, which really shows off his chops, 'Give My Compliments To The Chef'."

The news means that only guitarist Zal Cleminson and bass player Chris Glen remain from arguably the finest band ever to come out of Scotland.
