Patricia Morison, Hollywood and Broadway star, dead at 103

She was not on the list.

Hollywood Golden Age star Patricia Morison has died at the age of 103 after an 80-year career on the stage and screen.

Local reports claim the original star of the musical Kiss Me, Kate died at her home in Los Angeles on Sunday May 20th of natural causes.

She had gone into acting just as Hollywood's Golden Age was drawing to a close, and became famous for starring in films such as The Song of Bernadette and The Fallen Sparrow.

Among her other stand-out roles on the silver screen was as Sherlock Holmes' adversary Mrs Hilda Courtney in 1946's Dressed To Kill, in which she starred opposite Basil Rathbone.

Despite Morrison's promising beginnings, she was assigned to several second-tier pictures such as Rangers of Fortune (1940) and One Night in Lisbon (1941), both with Fred MacMurray, and The Round Up (1941) with Richard Dix and Preston Foster. On a loan-out to 20th Century-Fox she played one of her first villainess roles in Romance of the Rio Grande (1941), which starred Cesar Romero as the Cisco Kid. She left Paramount after a series of unrewarding roles, such as Night in New Orleans (1942), Beyond the Blue Horizon (1942), and Are Husbands Necessary? (1942).

Since retiring from acting, Morrison had devoted herself to painting.

She never married or had children, and had lived in the same LA apartment complex since 1961.
