Maurice L. Havis, affectionately known as “Bingo” was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 6, 1952 to Victoria and Napoleon Havis.
Maurice was a Cabrini Green native and pillar of his community.His past times included “steppin,” baseball, and acting. His breakout role in the movie “Cooley High” was the highlight of his acting career.
Maurice graduated from Waller High School (now known as Lincoln Park High School) in 1971. Maurice was employed over thirty years by the Cook County Sheriff Department.
Maurice would gain his heavenly wings on Sunday, January 1, 2017. Maurice was preceded in death by his parents Victoria and Napoleon Havis; his father- in- law Robert Young; two rother-in-laws Crandall Floyd and Robert Jr.; three sisters-in- law Verlene, Sally, and Darlene.
Maurice will be greatly missed yet his memory will forever live on.
Maurice leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Jessie; seven children Catrice (Michael), Maurice II, Kendall, Anthony,Maurice III, Marcus and Lanita. (31) grandchildren, (18) great-grandchildren and (7) siblings: Nadine, Charita, Nathaniel, Urdell, Labron, Anthony and Lynette; (1) sister-in-law Patricia (1) brother-in-law Big Dave and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Maurice Leon Havis was born on July 6, 1952 in Chicago, Illinois, USA. He was an actor, known for Cooley High (1975). He died on January 1, 2017 in Michigan City, Indiana, USA.
Funeral services will be held 12:00pm, Saturday, January 14, 2017 at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church 730 West Sixth Street with Rev. Jaccara Williams officiating. The visitation will be 10:00am, Saturday, January 14, 2017 at the church until the time of services.
