Nashville mourns Boomer Castleman who passed away today from cancer.

Nashville is mourning the loss of one of their own tonight.  Boomer Castleman passed away earlier today, September 1, 2015 surrounded by family and loved ones.   Boomer who was born Own Castleman was a regular at writer’s night and very well loved by all.  He went by his stage name Boomer and enjoyed a lifetime of love and songwriting in Nashville.

Castleman arrived in Nashville from Farmers Branch, Texas and was considered a one hit wonder with his 1975 charting single, “Judy Mae,” which peaked at #33.

This is a video interview that Castleman back in 2012.

Castleman invented the palm pedal, which is a pedal that allows guitar players to execute pedal steel-style string bends.  The prototype was designed in 1968.  The pedal is now marketed under the name Bigsby Palm Pedal.

Although the original patent has expired, the Bigsby/Castleman version is the original.  Another huge accomplishment in Boomer’s life was that he founded the record label BNA Records which he later sold to BMG Music.

Nashville goes to sleep tonight with a heavy heart as Boomer Castleman will surely be missed.

Funeral arrangements are currently being planned.  Check back as this story will be updated as soon as funeral arrangements have been confirmed.
