Tiernan was one of the longest living survivors of the ill-fated cast of The Conqueror (1956). She lived with multiple types of cancer for nearly 35 years. She joined the fate of her fellow departed cast members of the film on October 7, 2013, aged 82. She is interred in Pacific Grove, California.
