The Star Trek world has had to say good-bye to Kim Hamilton, who impressed audiences with her portrayal of Chairman Songi in the 1990 "Star Trek: The Next Generation" episode "Final Mission." She died Sept. 16 at age 68.

Hamilton's death was announced by the blogger Old Lady of the Hills in Los Angeles. A cause of death was not released.
"No one will ever know how good she was and what a big loving heart she had, or how devoted she was to those she held close, and how incredibly talented she was, too," the blogger said. "An actress of infinite versatility, and as beautiful inside as she was outside."

Songi, her character in TNG, was the leader of Gamelan V, according to Memory Alpha. Decked out in complete makeup, Hamilton's character wanted the Enterprise-D to help with a waste barge that had entered their orbit and was leaking radiation to the entire planet's surface.

The episode aired Nov. 19, 1990, and was written by Kacey Arnold-Ince and Jeri Taylor. The episode was written as a send-off for Wil Wheaton, who was leaving the series as Wesley Crusher.

Kim Hamilton was born Sept. 12, 1945. She was in show business as early as 5 years old, appearing in a number of productions including the "Twilight Zone" episode "Big Tall Wish" in 1960 when she was still a teenager. She had an uncredited role in "To Kill a Mockingbird" in 1962 and even appeared as a maid in "Leave it to Beaver." She played a doctor on General Hospital.

By the time she appeared in TNG, her career had already spanned four decades. Her last appearance would be in a 2008 episode of "Private Practice."

Hamilton was widowed in 2000 by her husband Werner Klemperer, of Hogan's Heroes fame .
